WGITF partners with Deloitte to launch Long-Term Industry Strategy

The BC Wine Grape Industry Task Force (WGITF) is launching the development of a Long-Term Industry Strategy to support the resilience, sustainability, and long-term prosperity of BC’s wine and grape sector.

To support this work, the Task Force has partnered with Deloitte, a global consulting firm with deep experience in industry strategy and complex transformation initiatives. Deloitte will work alongside the WGITF Program Delivery Team, the six Task Force Working Groups and industry to develop a comprehensive roadmap for the future of the sector.

Why This Strategy Matters

The development of this strategy comes at a pivotal moment for the industry. In recent years, the industry has faced a range of challenges, from climate impacts and crop loss to shifting market dynamics and evolving consumer behaviour.

At the same time, the industry continues to demonstrate remarkable resilience, innovation, and commitment to producing exceptional wines that reflect BC’s unique terroir.

The Long-Term Industry Strategy will take a comprehensive look at these challenges and opportunities to help identify shared priorities and coordinated actions that support a strong and sustainable future for the sector.

How the Strategy Will be Developed

Deloitte will lead the strategy development process in close collaboration with the Task Force and industry stakeholders across the province.

“BC’s wine and grape industry is an exciting and dynamic sector, and we are honoured to work alongside the BC Wine Grape Industry Task Force on this important strategy,” says Shayne Gregg, Partner, Governance & Risk at Deloitte. “Developing a meaningful long-term strategy requires listening to and learning from the people who are part of the industry every day. Over the coming months, we look forward to engaging with growers, wineries, and partners across the province through a range of opportunities to ensure voices from all parts of the sector help shape the plan. By bringing together these perspectives, we can develop a strategy that supports long-term resilience, strengthens competitiveness, and positions BC’s wine and grape industry for a thriving future.”

Over the coming months, the work will include:

  • engaging growers, wineries, and other industry partners
  • analyzing key opportunities and challenges facing the sector
  • identifying strategic priorities for long-term growth and sustainability
  • developing a practical roadmap for implementation

Central to this work is the belief that the strategy must be shaped by the people who make up the industry. Growers, winery owners, winemakers, tourism partners, and other stakeholders will all play an important role in informing the direction of the plan.

Opportunities to Participate

Over the coming months, there will be several opportunities for industry members to engage as the strategy develops. Insights and input from across the province will ensure that the final strategy reflects the needs and aspirations of BC’s diverse wine and grape sector.

“This is a moment for our industry to come together and shape the future of BC wine,” says Severine Pinte, Executive winemaker/viticulturist/Managing partner at Enotecca Wineries and Resort, BC Wine Grape Industry Task Force Advisory Committee member and Chair of Sustainable Winegrowing BC. “Industry engagement is essential to the success of this strategy, and I encourage my colleagues from across the province, from growers and winemakers to business leaders and innovators, to participate in the process. The strength of our industry is rooted in collaboration, and the more perspectives we bring forward, the stronger the outcome will be, ensuring that everyone in the industry will see themselves reflected in the path ahead.”
